If you get hurt or are in pain, you may need diagnostic imaging tests like X-rays to evaluate your condition. At San Marcos Urgent Care, we use on-site digital X-ray technology to get a closer look at your bones and soft tissues to identify issues like fractures or even pneumonia. Based on the results of your X-rays, we can create a treatment plan to relieve your symptoms and help you heal fully.

To schedule diagnostic X-rays, call the office in San Marcos, walk-in at your convenience or book an appointment online.

X-RAY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

What Is An X-Ray?

An X-ray is a noninvasive, diagnostic test that uses electromagnetic radiation to create pictures of the structures inside your body.

You might need an X-ray if you have unexplained pain or other symptoms that may relate to:

  • A fractured bone
  • Pneumonia
  • Tumors
  • Abnormal masses

X-rays can also be a diagnostic tool to evaluate kids who have swallowed foreign objects.

What Happens During An X-Ray?

Before your X-ray, you will need to remove all of your jewelry. The team at San Marcos Urgent Care will help you sit or lie down on a table and place your body into the proper position. We typically place a lead-lined blanket over areas of your body that aren’t being evaluated to protect you from radiation.

When the technician takes the X-ray, your provider briefly leaves the room. They may come back into the room to reposition your body to take additional images. Depending on the reason for your X-ray, they may need to move you several times to get different image angles.

X-rays require no invasive procedures or anesthesia. You can go back to your usual activities without any limitations after your test is complete.

What Can I Expect After An X-Ray?

Your X-rays are read to identify the cause of your symptoms. If you need additional diagnostic testing or treatment, the team at San Marcos Urgent Care can discuss your options when your test is complete.

If you have a fracture or pneumonia, you may need additional X-rays after you start treatment to evaluate your recovery. The convenience of the in-office X-rays means you won’t have to travel elsewhere for results.

What Are The Risks Associated With X-Rays?

Under the supervision of our skilled medical team, X-rays are a safe and effective way to evaluate your health.

If you’re pregnant, you may not be able to have an X-ray of your pelvis or abdomen. The team discusses your options for diagnostic testing with technologies like ultrasounds that don’t use radiation.

If you think you need an X-ray, let the best urgent care doctors and providers at San Marcos 24 Hour Urgent Care diagnose you. You can walk in to our clinic to be seen by our caring staff at your convenience. Appointments are not needed. Or you can book online!
